Toyota's next-generation Hybrid Drive System in the Venza combines a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder, DOHC, high-output engine with three electric motors. The gasoline engine uses an electric motor Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-iE) on the intake camshaft and a VVT-i on the exhaust camshaft. The variable cooling system (electric water pump, electric thermostat) as well as a fully variable oil pump also contribute to improved efficiency during journeys.

This proven technology produces a total of 219 horsepower. As with all Toyota hybrids, the everyday feeling of acceleration and responsiveness is enhanced by the way the electric motor optimizes engine torque at low rpm. The hybrid system also optimizes the level of assistance of the electric motor and the speed of the gasoline engine without the engine running at high revs. The engine speed is synchronized with the vehicle's speed, allowing effortless and quiet acceleration; you'll feel disarmingly calm. The Venza's hybrid system adopts a new lithium-ion battery to improve its performance as well as its size and weight.
