Toyota Corolla GR: 300-Horsepower Engine

For this new performance model, Toyota has exceeded expectations: at the heart of the 2023 Corolla GR is a 3-cylinder, 1.6L turbocharged engine that develops 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque!

By comparison, the Yaris equipped with this engine, a model not found in North America, develops 273 horsepower. What is the secret behind this higher power? Guillaume Rivard, journalist for Le Guide de l'auto, explains:

"The unique triple exhaust system is designed to limit backpressure, thus maximizing power."

Moreover, the Toyota Corolla GR is equipped with standard all-wheel drive, an exclusive system called GR Four. It offers multiple front and rear wheel settings to handle any road condition and customize your driving experience.

As a GR car, the driving experience is put forward with a 6-speed manual transmission, intended for the purist enthusiasts. There will be no automatic transmission on the menu.

The MORIZO Edition, Even More Powerful!

To mark the launch of the Toyota GR Corolla, a special edition has been added to the offer: the MORIZO. This one is 50 kg lighter for an even more manageable car.

The torque is increased from 275 to 295 lb-ft with this model. A true race car, it distinguishes itself with features such as:

• A two-seat design
• A stiffer chassis
• Reinforced shocks
• And much more

Apart from this special edition, the new Corolla GR will come in two versions: Core and Circuit. All Corolla GR Hatchbacks feature an athletic look with Michelin performance tires mounted on 18-inch 15-spoke wheels.

The Circuit version adds features such as a carbon fiber roof and Torsen limited-slip differentials. Consequently, it offers optimized handling.

2023 Corolla GR: A Driver-Centric Design

The cockpit is also important when driving a Toyota GR Sport! Drivers have contributed to its design to offer you an experience worthy of a race car. You'll be able to view your driving data on a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Driver assistance technologies are also on board with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 package, the latest generation with more advanced technologies including:

A full suite of infotainment technologies also awaits you on board, including a standard 8-inch touchscreen.

The Core version is the one that will be offered as an entry-level model. You'll get cloth sport seats. With the Circuit trim, the seats are trimmed in synthetic leather and suede, an upholstery with red accents.

Best known for its reliability and value for money, the Corolla has always been an excellent option on the market. The only flaw its detractors could find was its lack of driving pleasure, although it has improved significantly.

The Toyota Corolla is still a good car; the new GR is simply for those who want more performance behind the wheel. It combines reliability and fun in one vehicle!
